The Piano – Where Dining Hits the Right Tune
by: Dina Indrasafitri

What is life without entertainment? Everyone enjoys a little song and dance to brighten their days. That point of view is what escalated The Piano Bistro to what it is now. Beginning as a quiet, romantic and elegant restaurant, it clinches onto the Indonesians' preference in swapping fine dining for fine serenading. Thus, the bistro decided to play down on the garnishes and add a little more splash to the ambience with various entertainment for the guests. Of course, the activities are selected carefully to maintain the elegant aspect of the place.

  • The Vibe
One glance is enough to convince that this is a great place for your next date, or even your marriage proposal. Elegant white tablecloths and quilted leather seats ensure that you will eat with style and comfort, and the romantic lighting creates a pleasant, dreamy mood. Charming little decorations add on to the atmosphere, such as the large timepiece on the wall made out of glass wares arranged so that each glass represent a time period. Another delicate touch is the draping of chasing lights on the outer sides of the windows and beige curtains, giving nuances of subtle sparkles. However, keep in mind also that The Piano may not be as quiet as it used to be, due to the entertainment programs brewed to liven up the place and to attract more customers. But these programs are also carefully selected as not to cross the border of elegance.

Mr Andy, manager of the entertainment division of The Piano explains several of the programs such as the ladies day on Monday, where there would be special treats for female diners and small bazaars of upscale products. Another interesting program is the dancing lesson held on Tuesdays, where staffs and diners make maximum use of the parquet floor. But romance remains in the air with the classic mood of dinner for two preserved on Saturdays. Special offers are made for couples and the only thing making sound besides gentle whispers, will be the grand piano and flute.

A private dining room, able to accommodate around fifteen people, is also available in The Piano. The second floor has a larger room for private functions. This room does not prioritize on decorations, though, so if you are looking for an already-prepared room to hold your wedding banquet, the first floor is the better choice.

  • The Food
The bistro serves a mixture of European food with little touches of Asian. Most of the food in the menu are French and Italian. Surprisingly, the prices is not budget-blowing.

Start your meal with a dainty dish of Escargot and Chicken Dumpling. The escargot is wrapped with savory chicken batter, steamed and served in large shells. Dip the dumpling in the Thai Sweet Chili Sauce and get a lovely taste of east meets west. The sauce is one of the restaurant's favorite item and is used in several dishes, giving a zest of a refreshing taste with every bite. Another starting option is the Shrimp and Cheese, which is a blend of fresh shrimps and mozzarella cheese wrapped in a slice of bread and fried until brown.

Their sandwiches are fast becoming the more popular items in The Piano. Diners can choose from a range of options such as Beef Teriyaki, Tuna or Turkey sandwich. The bread is homemade and the meat is generous, creating a very satisfying and practical meal. Another bonus is the freshness of the vegetables in every menu item. It would be safe to say that even the ones used for garnishing are quite tasty. Not in the mood for finger food? Then try the barbequed chicken. This is chicken breast-fillet roasted perfectly and dressed with addictive sweet and sour barbeque sauce. Accompanied by the home-style mashed potatoes, it would make a fulfilling but not too heavy meal.

Make space for some of The Piano's best desserts. The sweet and sexy Love Bite, which is an ensemble of fluffy heart-shaped waffles with vanilla ice cream and strawberry sauce, is perfect for the couples. This light finisher is simply love in bite-sizes. For pure indulgence, feast on the Double Chocolate Brownies with Rum Raisin Ice Cream. The crisp brownies with Chunky Chocolate pieces match perfectly with the rich rum raisin flavor. In addition, this treat is complemented with sweet, crispy pastries.

The SD Food Advisor's Take on The Piano Bistro
A romantic spot perfect for your next date, as the food is quite good and affordable. Make sure that you check on their schedules before reserving a table for this true bargain.
