Ahh, the futuristic lighting schemes, the large shiny dance floor, the big screaming crowds, such are the features of most night clubs in Jakarta. Of course it’s impressive and you enjoyed some of its moments, but now you find it somewhat tiresome. You’d prefer a more exclusive joint with less hype.
Enter J-Lounge, a small yet sassy nightspot in Hotel Gran Melia, Kuningan. It promises cozy, intimate nightlife experience where the classy socialites flock to dance, sip well-tendered drinks and polish their conversational skills. Gone is Kelts, the Irish club that had been the previous resident of this floor.
Not likely will you find chirping teenagers here because the age limit actually works and so does the dress code. Unless you’ve got an attitude slicker than the DJ’s spinning style, there is not much hoping that you can enter the zone wearing T-shirts and flip-flops. J-lounge will greet you with a surprisingly sensual, even mystical mood. Lot’s of comfortable spots decorated with a Mediterranean feel and the tones are magenta-dominated. Plush velvet chairs and ostentatious chandeliers along with fluttering draperies on the windows and between the chairs give the place a delicious decadent attitude.
If all those do not spell ‘sexy’ enough for you, then step inside The Boudoir Section, which will provide you with even more privacy. This is an almost separate room from the whole lounge, decorated with lush Persian carpets and other Mediterranean tidbits. Think Arabian Nights. The lighting is amazing - it’s not merely that ‘giving-it-all’, hi-tech game you often see at the disco, the aura is sensuous and warm and yet still managing to give the needed party ambiance. It takes skills to produce such atmosphere in a small and fully decorated place like the J-lounge, and somehow the magic works. Someone must’ve rubbed a lamp and called for a lighting genie.
Resident DJs play catchy beats to dance to, such as RnB and easy dance music. Not really much space to dance because the place is roughly only 400 square meters in size, but this is a lounge after all. The champagne bar with the name ‘Al Fresco’ adds even another exclusive touch to J-lounge. Prices are definitely upscale but after all, this is one chic place.
Apparently, the club is a branch of club Momo in Singapore and being ‘intimate’ is its main selling point. It may be quite new to some who are used to more hyped up joints but it certainly proves to capture the hearts of many clubgoers. The place is open from Monday to Friday from 4 Pm to 3 Am and on Saturday from 6 Pm to 5 Am. So, if you’re in the mood for cozy, intimate clubbing, get your best outfit on and glide your way to the J-lounge.
