Xpose Pool

Opening a hip nightlife spot in the West and North area of Jakarta could be a little tricky. Although we do welcome a variety of ways to enjoy the Jakarta nights, it is a widespread secret that the spots in West and North are often considered to be a little outdated. These clubs and discotheques usually play the kind of music that is not favored by the youth, such as house music. Despite this, the nightclubs do have their own league of loyal followers enabling their survival through the years proving their attraction still stands to a certain extent.

That being said, the area still leaves a mark on Jakarta clubbers, especially the young ones. Few would want to be seen in a ‘West' club, and that is what makes the Xpose Lounge a daring player in the scene indeed.

Following the ‘one-stop entertainment center' concept, which is sprouting up virtually everywhere in the South, Xpose aims to make its mark in the Kota area of North Jakarta . Located near the Fatahillah museum, it certainly stands out, being the only hip hangout in the vicinity. Parking may be a problem, considering this is a historical site. The space provided is insufficient to contain many cars, and you would have to share your parking space with customers of the Café Batavia next door.

Enter by the discreet door amidst the sidewalk peddlers and you would come upon a large winding stairs, lighted by pink neon boxes on the walls. After descending the stairs, a vast area containing 16 high quality pool tables will instantaneously catch your attention. The good lighting, high ceilings and spacious arrangement between them will affirm this is indeed a place to play pool on a serious note.

If you are not into the pool game, take a right turn instead, and you will step inside the café. This laid back area is styled after a studio. The large windows, which is an original attribute of the colonial building, gives an eyeful of the activities going on in the old town below, and the walls are decorated with large paintings, their attractiveness enhanced by gallery-style lightings. Several antiques such as an old bike gives an air of authenticity to the room. In the center is another pool table, available for those who prefer playing with lots of spectators around. Comfortable sofas and low tables are lined beside the windows.

At the far end of the café is a door leading to the lounge section. Here is where the party comes to live. The lounge is set in a rather cozy atmosphere and the dancing space is not exactly vast, for the chairs and low tables tend to occupy most of the room. However, it is certainly welcoming and nice enough to hold a private party anytime. The bar, which provides a decent amount of cocktail options, is situated near the entrance. Be aware, however, that merely renting a pool table does not entitle you to a complimentary entry into the lounge if an event is going on.

The music played in the lounge section is quite an important differentiating factor of Xpose among the other night spots in North Jakarta . The anthems played are distinctively ‘Southern' club music, which means that they are the progressive, techno and the occasional R ‘n B – the kind of music that is alluring the young clubbers nowadays.

With just a little publicity support and probably the building of an underground parking lot, XPose Pool and Lounge will easily become the next big thing in Jakarta 's nightlife scene.
