Jakarta Animal Hospital
by: Dina Indrasafitri

If you are a pet owner, you probably hold a special place in your heart for your canine, feline or any creature dear to you. If anything should happen to them, God forbids, you would want them to have the best treatment available

In Jakarta, you are most likely to find that at the Jakarta Animal Hospital. This friendly, animal-wise and human-wise, hospital is the main choice for owners to handle the health care of their animals.

The hospital is a little hard to locate. It is situated not on a main street but if you look watchfully enough for a small sign on the right side of the road saying ‘Rumah Sakit Hewan Jakarta’ while driving through the Harsono street towards Ragunan zoo, you would come to a turning point which will lead you down a small road to the hospital.

Almost surely, you will be greeted by a number of lazy, very well-nourished cats and aloof, docile dogs before you come into the reception area. These are dogs and cats suffering from malnutrition or diseases that were taken in by the hospital from the streets. You would first have to register and weigh your animal in the hospital before you could fill in a form mentioning the symptoms or purpose of coming there. There is a sufficient number of doctors but on weekends the there could be a long line ahead of you so if you simply have to come on Saturday, it would be best to come early.

The equipments are also decent enough and there are a number of facilities provided, such as a pet cemetery, pet cremation and a pet care service to take care of your pet in the hospital while you are away on holiday or business. In certain days the hospital gives flea-ridding services. A pet shop and apothecary is also available, except on weekends.

The dogs and cats wandering around are quite used to other animals and will seldom bother your pet. But, on the contrary, your pet may not be used to them. There are also other pets in the waiting room that may not be too tolerant towards others so take care as to put your buddy in a carrying case or a firm collar. A sign in a waiting room says ‘please keep guard as to avoid patients from biting each other’. A hilarious sign to be put up in a regular hospital but in this case makes perfect sense.
