Suka Beach Inn is located at Jalan Benesari, a side road of Poppies Lane 2, which confusingly is sometimes also addressed as Poppies 2. To get there turn right at the Tsunami surf shop and this gem can be found after passing the Cirkle K at the left side of the road.
Amidst all the mediocre hostels that can be found in Kuta, Suka Beach Inn is a real treat, and actually looks more like a hotel than a losmen (hostel). The 40 rooms are divided over three floors surrounding a lovely well kept garden that, as a real bonus, has a swimming pool perched in the middle.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and all have a private balcony that looks out over the pool and the garden. The inside bathrooms have a Western style toilet and shower. A ceiling fan provides the necessary breeze, and for a surcharge you can upgrade to an a/c room. A breakfast is included consisting of a jaffle, fruit salad and tea or coffee, and served in the restaurant next to the pool.
Rates are negotiable depending on season and occupancy rate, so try your bargaining skills. For one person the fan rooms are listed as Rp. 60,000 and the a/c rooms at Rp. 90,000 and for two the prices are respectively Rp. 80,000 and Rp. 120,000. Discounts are offered for long term stays.
Suka Beach in has a lovely setting and is attractively decorated in typical Balinese style. The cheerful atmosphere and the swimming pool make this one of the best bets in Kuta. No wonder it is often fully booked, so call in beforehand, to avoid any disappointment and a forced stay in one of the many depressing dingy alternatives that make up most of Kuta's backpackers scene.
